Daniel Ruane - Anamnesis

The electronic sensation comes back this month from the UK!

After a remarkable second album, "Lakes" on L.A. based imprint Proximal Records and an impressive compilation of remixes, "The Interpreter", on The Silent Howl label earlier this year, Manchester don Daniel Ruane (Birkhouse Recordings, Don’t Fret Records) strikes back with a self-release in the form of a brand new EP!

A collection of five refined cuts ranging from pure Ambient to more Housey styles, sensitive "Anamnesis" opens the 12" with contemplative song "Lakes", a catchy mixture of audio recordings taken live during a travel to Derwentwater Lake, in the UK’s Lake District region. Based upon an emotional synth lament over analogue frequencies plus samples of spoken words from ordinary people, this relaxing and craftily produced jewel precedes another milestone of a track: "Leaf Tweak".

Energized by Breakbeat elements, glitch tones and smooth layers, this piece of moody broken beat inspired by the sound of Warp Records quickly turns into a fascinating Electronica jam. Top notch!

The title track, beatless "Anamnesis", coming next, closes the A side with an exulting beauty made of whistles of birds and lazy synth notes to give you goose-bumps!

The reverse offers two more tracks, progressive "Gate V2" fueled with rhythm and percussions, and "Inner Room Flux", a brilliant Downtempo masterpiece venturing into experimental yet introspective landscapes.

Limited to 300 copies worldwide, the vinyl extends with delightfulness, the atmospheric journey of "Lakes"; the digital album previously released on Proximal’s Bandcamp. In case you missed it, taking us on a wild trip to a more 4/4 universe, this seven tracker showcases deep IDM roots.

Besides the main title "Lakes" of course, the sonic pounding of dark "Shatter", the frantic breakbeat rhythm of "Hill" and the psychedelic violins of "Glaramara", depict authentic scenes of life, characterized by strong feelings, while capturing present moments with an array of organic elements.

Instantly following the original "Gate" version, enigmatic "Cut Trails" opens the doors of a colourful world built around untouchable synths flights, ominous bass tones and mental textures. The concept EP around nature themes ends on an epic remix of "Shatter" by Matthew Hettich aka WAKE.

More than an aesthetic soundtrack or a memorable journey through evanescent sequences, intricate "Lakes" will speak to your subconscious, just like a nostalgic reminiscence of distant souvenirs. Never sticking to a genre, versatile Daniel Ruane seems to be also comfortable making cool or harder stuff. Definitively the mark of a great artist and a talent to follow!
