London based Cultivated Electronics celebrates this month its 10th birthday the best way possible, with the release of "Ten Year Electronics"; the final chapter in the imprint's series of compilations featuring the label owner Sync 24 and the current creme of electronic producers.
A side opens with glitchy yet urban "Tri-Gate", a powerful collaboration between Phil Bolland and Tom Russell aka Truss (Perc Trax, Our Circula Sound). A combination of hypnotic modulations and luminous synth layers, the song serves up a classic Electro tune driven by harsh beats interspersed with intricate vocals. Strictly for the dancefloor!
"Eliptical" coming next sees Sync 24 in an unexpected meeting with Keith "Radioactive Man" Tenniswood (Tuppence, Reinhardt). Both producers deliver a mash up of their savoir-faire when it comes to creating frantic music supported by bubbling lines and analogue modulations. Heading and tense at the same time!
On the reverse, Phil joins Australian Mikey Melas aka Jensen Interceptor (Central Processing Unit, Boysnoize Records) to serve up on epileptic "Wave ID", a brilliant Electro construction characterized by punishing drums, intricate distortions and heartfelt Sci-Fi elements. My favorite!
Last but not the least, the EP ends up with epic "We Animate", A B-Boy slaughter written along with Steve Allman (Cultivated Electronics), where the duo explores the funky side of Electro thanks to old schoolish tones, minimal beats, stripped out synth layers and robotic vocals.
This vital 12" has the taste of a big and birthday cake, richly decorated with plenty of electronic crème and synthetic sweetness. Rush on it fast to secure your portion before it is too late!
